Low Light Fashion Photoshoot with Porsche 911

For this fashion photo shoot model was dreaming to do her first professional photo shoot for a long time and I’m so glad that she choose me as her photographer!

Kristina Egorova said she had been following me on the internet for a long time. During her browsing, she saw an inspiration picture shoot I did, and along with my profile, it convinced her that I was the photographer she wanted. Yeah!

Get Your Photographs Seen

Kristina’s remarks were flattering to hear. They should serve as a reminder to you photographers to produce and publish more of your work. You never know who will see your photographs and fall in love with your style.

That means you shouldn’t be afraid of being different. Don’t try to do what everyone else is doing. Standing out from your colleagues with distinctive fashion photo shoot ideas could be the reason you get that next gig.

Kristina was attracted to photo shoots I had done with edgy-looking models and autos. So, she thought that look would be great for pictures with her Porsche 911.

Work With Model

I liked Kristina immediately for a lot of reasons, but one of the primary reasons was her honesty. From the very beginning, she confided in me that she was not an experienced professional model, so she didn’t know how to pose. She even asked me if I would tell her what she should do because she was out of her comfort zone.

No problem. I can work with anyone as long as they’re willing to learn like Kristina. It takes a humble person to admit she isn’t knowledgeable about something. It was especially nice to have someone as beautiful as Kristina not pretend that modeling is easy.

Make That Skin Shine

For her first outfit, we chose a black two-piece lingerie set with a matching, long unstructured coat. Then I used a little trick to make Kristina’s skin shimmer. I couldn’t take a chance that the limited lighting would leave her skin looking dull.

So, the answer was an application of an olive oil spray marketed for hair use. It includes a touch of coconut oil. Together, the oils make the skin come alive in photos with a rich, healthy shine that looks natural.

How to Be Hot in One Easy Step

I told her the key to making this fashion photo shoot sensual was not to try to be sensual. Sometimes, people tend to overreact their parts.

In Kristina’s case, she’s a knockout wearing exciting outfits. There’s no reason to act hot. I told her to act laid-back and cool. I wanted her to pretend like she was wearing an ordinary outfit that she had no idea was so revealing.

Camera Settings

What kind of camera do you use? For this shoot, I relied on my Hasselblad x2d 100c.

The low-light situation forced me to shoot with ISO 3200. For some even more limited light shots, I had an ISO setting of 6400.

During the shoot, I favored 38 mm wide-angle shots at f/2.8. The wide angle helped me establish the setting. The photos leave no doubt in the viewer’s mind where our story is taking place.

Helping a Non-Professional Model Move Like a Pro

I gave Kristina a few tips here and there which she used to begin posing like a professional model. For example, during one shot, I asked her to move her feet farther apart to shift her body weight so that she leaned rather than stood too straight. Immediately, the look became more dynamic.

In one way or another, what you’re trying to do with a lovely female model is accentuate her natural curvaceousness. Turning a leg or tilting the head can transform your shot.

In another case, while Kristina was in a three-quarter profile, I asked her to bring the shoulder nearest the camera closer to her chin. That small adjustment elevated the photo from a so-so shot to an over-the-shoulder pose suitable for an experienced model’s portfolio.

It’s also a good idea to make sure your non-professional model has plenty of available props they can use. Props can provide comfort and reassurance. In this case, Kristina had a long coat and sunglasses.

Making The Best of Your Location

Our location was an underground parking garage. That doesn’t sound inspiring, does it? After all, you’re surrounded by gray concrete.

To make matters worse, underground garages usually have little to no natural light. Everything’s artificial, and not designed to flatter models or automobiles.

If you’re an adventurous photographer, you’ll learn to embrace these sorts of challenges. They’ll test your imagination for fashion photo shoot ideas and make you a better fashion photographer.

Instead of fighting the surroundings, I worked with them. I let the gray become my canvas against which Kristina’s black outfits and the black Porsche 911 would stand out.

I used lots of the location’s features that most amateur photographers would try to eliminate. For example, I allowed the overhead ductwork to show in the photos. I didn’t treat them like nuisances but as additional inspiration for fashion photo shoot ideas.

For additional lighting, I used primarily the Porsche’s lighting system, including its ground effects. They gave a great radiance that bathed Kristina in an otherworldly red glow. It’s just another reminder to use what’s available to you. A simple LED lightstick also helped at times.

Keep Your Fashion Photo Shoot Fun

As the first part of the shoot came to an end, I was pleased that Kristina said that after the first few moments she got comfortable, feeling like the leather-clad Trinity in The Matrix. A relaxed model is exactly what you want to achieve as a photographer.

Kristina’s enthusiasm was infectious. She couldn’t believe how good she looked when I showed her the early shots of her second outfit, a catsuit with the back out. She said the picture looked like it was taken from a movie.

Notice that I didn’t shy away from including the drab, gray cinder block walls in those catsuit photos. I let them add flavor to the session.

The gritty, well-worn concrete created an industrial, somewhat dangerous feel. And that’s exactly the kind of situation where you’d expect to find a stunning woman in a catsuit driving a Porsche 911.

Excited, Kristina was ready to deliver a few more poses in that outfit. It was also time for another inexpensive addition to the shoot. Notice that we switched to a bright red lipstick for another pop of color. It’s amazing how such a small adjustment can make a huge contribution to your finished photo.

A Little Pause and a Little Praise

We took a much-needed break between the second and third outfits. The garage was super hot. You would think that being underground would be cool, but it felt hotter than the outside.

Despite the heat, Kristina made everything better with her opinion of how the day was going. She once again said that she had been concerned about the photo shoot because she was inexperienced.

She said that seeing all the photos on my website with professional models left her intimidated, but today, I made her feel like a supermodel. She added that she felt like I gave her the superpower to be whatever she wanted to be during the photo shoot.

What a sweet thing to say. You’d better believe I was recharged and ready to photograph some more.

The Porsche 911 Goes Topless

We dropped the top on the Porsche 911 to get some great shots of our model in the interior of the car. Once again, we used the car’s lighting system and a lightstick to our advantage. Look carefully at the video and you’ll see the lightstick resting in the back seat, casting a nice red glow toward the driver’s area where our model was posing.

We stayed with today’s color palette of principally black and red for the final outfit. This time Kristina was in a clingy, little black dress with chunky boots.

Our Model Lives and Works in the Fast Lane

Kristina said she would post one of today’s pictures to help her rent the Porsche 911. I told her guys would call in response to the ad even if she didn’t have a car available for rent. However, in addition to the Porsche 911, Kristina currently rents a Corvette, a BMW M4 Competition, an Audi S5, and a Bentley Continental.

Kristina’s a busy woman. Her car rental is her side hustle, or as she calls it, her “crime on the side.” She jokes that in Miami, to make ends meet, you need three full-time jobs and a crime on the side.

Her daytime job also surrounds her with cars. She manages a fleet of 25 luxury and exotic automobiles from legendary automobile manufacturers, such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Rolls Royce.

Kristina may already be busy, but in my opinion, if she wants another crime on the side, she can always model
